Cougar Cub and Randi Olsen

After receiving a call on July 12th and again on July 15th regarding a lone cougar kitten on the Mamquam Forest Service Road, the C.O. Service with the assistance of volunteers was able to locate and transport the kitten to a Langley animal hospital late last night. The kitten was most likely on its own for 3-4 days and was emaciated and dehydrated but still pretty feisty! It weighed in at just over 4lbs.
Plans are to have the kitten transferred to Critter Care for assessment and care. As a rule, cougars are not rehabilitated and released like bear cubs.
If you do come across what you think might be an orphaned animal:
Ensure your safety as the animal may not be orphaned and there might be a parent nearby
Call the Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277 (RAPP) or # 7277 on your cellular and they will assess what actions are required
Do not handle or pick up the animal, wait for direction from the C.O. Service
