Alexandra Morton: Politics & Law: Norwegian Salmon Farming in Canada. Privately owned salmon in ocean feedlots is unconstitutional, net pen fish farms are exempt from Canadian fishing regulations and Ottawa does not think wild salmon are worth the effort. Hard to believe? Join Alexandra Morton for an evening of stunning photographs and a story that needs to be heard.
Alexandra Morton is a registered biologist who found the Broughton Archipelago following a pod of orca in 1984 and made it her home. When salmon farms moved in a few years later, she thought they were a good idea. Since then as the biologist on the ground, Morton has made it her life work to keep the wild salmon migration routes free of salmon farms. Her work and that of many other independent scientists have discovered that salmon farms kill wild salmon. Scientists can no longer afford to simply do science. If they see ecosystems being dismantled, they have to bring their science to the people relentlessly. Alexandra Morton is to BC salmon what Jane Goodall is to chimpanzees. The main difference is that BC is not a third world country and we should be doing better than this. Come meet and hear this extraordinary scientist and find out how you can help. http://www.raincoastresearch.org/
