Estuary Bird Count with SECS

Count Organization - The Squamish River estuary has been divided into four count areas: East, West, North Central and South Central. (Each area contains a number of sub-areas, see map for details.) Each area contains a mix of walking and/or driving. Habitats are varied: floodplain forest, river, sloughs, Carex sedge marshes, mud and open water.
The count takes between 4 and 6 hours depending on weather and number of birds present. Count results are tallied at the Brew Pub over lunch.
Car pool from the Brew Pub. The Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company (Brew Pub) is located at the south end of Cleveland Ave in the Squamish town center – drive to the end of Cleveland, the Brew Pub and Inn is the big, beautiful building on the right.
Count leaders are local birders. They normally have spotting scopes. Counts occur monthly, usually the second Sunday of the month, but if there is a holiday it’s changed to either the first or third Sunday.
Both novice and experienced birders are welcome!
